Why custom

The difference between “installed” and “built-in”.

Walls aren’t straight

Store-bought units leave gaps. We scribe every piece to your actual walls, floors and ceiling.

Made for your space

Built to the inch around windows, outlets and vents — no dead space, no awkward fillers.

Finish is everything

Caulked, filled and painted so it reads as part of the house.

It adds value

Good built-ins and trim are one of the few upgrades buyers notice in a walkthrough.

What you get

Four things you'll have by the end of the week.

Book the free estimate and, within the week, you’ll have everything you need to decide — in writing.

01 · IN WRITING

Your estimate

A clear, written price for the built-in or trim project — labor, materials and timeline spelled out. No surprise add-ons; if anything changes once we open things up, you approve it before we do it.

02 · SEE IT FIRST

Visual plan + deposit terms

A simple visual of the finished job — a sketch, photo mockup or material samples — so you can see it before you commit. To lock your start date: 25% deposit on larger projects and custom orders, balance on completion.

03 · THE PROCESS

Our prep checklist

Everything we do to prepare your walls for built-ins and trim, step by step — so you know exactly what happens in your home and why. (See the full checklist below.)

04 · YOUR CREW

Who’s working at your home

The names of who’s showing up (Mark, Maxim or Michael), your start date and how many days we’ll be on site. No strangers showing up at your door.

Our prep checklist

Everything we do to prepare for your built-ins and trim.

1

Design & measure

  • Measure the space top to bottom
  • Locate studs, outlets and vents
  • Sketch the design with you
2

Protect your home

  • Floor protection and dust control
  • Cut station set up outside when possible
  • Daily cleanup
3

Prep the walls

  • Remove old trim or shelving
  • Patch and sand the wall
  • Check level and plumb
4

Build & install

  • Cut and assemble to the plan
  • Anchor into studs
  • Scribe to walls, floors and ceiling
5

Finish

  • Fill nail holes and caulk seams
  • Prime and paint or stain
  • Hardware and final walk-through
What we don’t do: moving walls, structural framing, or adding outlets and lighting. If you want new outlets or lights in a built-in, a licensed electrician handles that part.

Who’s working at your home

We’re Mark, Maxim & Michael — three brothers, one crew.

Jax Beach Handyman is a family crew. Mark runs the estimates and the design side; Maxim and Michael are on the tools with him every day. The people who show up at your door are the people who own the work.

We stick to what we’re best at — finish carpentry, cabinets, tile and built-ins — and we don’t touch permitted plumbing, electrical or structural work. We never want to be the reason a homeowner fails an inspection when they sell.

"I asked Mark to come back and help complete a punch list on a house inspection and he did a great job. He was accommodating, reliable, professional and extremely good at a variety of tasks… his pricing was extremely reasonable for all that I requested him to complete."

FAQ

Built-ins and finish carpentry questions.

Do you build accent walls and wainscoting?

Yes. Along with built-ins we install accent walls, including board and batten, shiplap and wall paneling, plus crown molding, baseboards and door and window casing. Many of these projects are for new homes in Nocatee, Ponte Vedra and St. Johns County.

What can you build?

Bookcases, entertainment walls, window seats, mudroom benches, pantry and closet systems, wall paneling, crown, baseboard and door casing.

Can you match my existing trim?

Usually, yes. We’ll bring profile samples to the estimate and match what’s there as closely as possible.

Paint or stain?

Either. Most built-ins are painted to match your trim; stained wood takes a little longer.

Can you add lighting to a built-in?

We can build in low-voltage puck lights and leave the channels ready. New outlets or hardwired lighting are done by a licensed electrician.
